I’m a big classic rock fan, something I picked up in the 80’s, not when the actual music was happening. So yesterday I’m back at my gym ( check last post ) and I see this guy wearing a Led Zeppelin shirt . It was the Icarus ( or fallen angel ) shirt. My son ,who I got into Led Zeppelin and Jimi Hendrix , always talks about the symbolism of this.
The seventies was a time of revolution, major changes in politics, style and society. And I see the same way that generation took risks, so should we. Although it wasn’t done with the intention of setting an example for future generations, it allowed us to be at the point where we are, especially socially. However, just like the past generation they rebelled against, they ( we ) now complain about the next ones.
But as long as there is change and growth, there is progress. Even if it is misguided, there will be benefits. But the only way to achieve anything is to try. And with any venture, there will be failure. If we focus on failure, allow others ( who play it safe ) to scare you, success will never be achieved.
I recently read that beta males dress to fit in, while Alphas dress to stand out. Winners get rewarded, not runner up. So we should always go for the gold. Be the champ, but if we do not reach our goals we know we gave it our best. The guys who laugh at your loss never even entered the race. But that is what separates the boys from the men.
There will be defeats, we will fall, there will be total disasters. But you get up. You try again. Refuse to be defeated. There is greatness in all of us. Icarus didn’t die a failure, he reached for glory and it cost him his life. Any sacrifice you make is nothing comparable. So shoot your shot. Swing for the fences. Climb in the ring, because it is the only way to win.
