While I enjoy dressing “well”, I am not really a guy who dresses “up”. Now this is a relative comparison because dressing up is different to different people . I feel for my age and position in life ( also totally personal ), a tee shirt and sneakers aren’t appropriate daily wear anymore. Now looking back, I could have upgraded even back then. But I am not a blazer and tie guy (not yet at least ) either. A small step up is the Henley.
This shirt was originally an undershirt that later was used by rowers in England. What distinguishes this shirt is that it has a banded collar. This keeps it informal, like a cotton tee shirt but the buttons up front give it a polo shirt feel. Whether long or short sleeve it is an attractive, comfortable look. Depending on the fabric , you can use it with jeans or pants and it is a good match. When layering with a jacket or sweater, it won’t weigh you down because it is not a bulky shirt. And the Henley will always fit you well because it is loose enough to hide your faults or you can get a fitted one ( or 3 like I have ).
This is an easy upgrade if you have no clue about style because you can keep wearing your “regular” clothes. I always suggest gradual steps and this will allow you to start your upgrade in fashion and more important, developing your own style.
